The TV celebrity, the Paralympian & the chocolate maker15 Jun 2018
Gerrard Gosens has quite the resume. Father of two, husband, mentor, business owner, Dancing with The Stars contestant, marathon runner. He's climbed Mount Everest, run from Cairns to Brisbane to raise funds for Charity (five times), and is a Paralympian representing Australia. And he's totally blind!
Perhaps though, one of Gerrard's most unknown claim to fame is that he and his wife are the proud owners and Chocolatiers of Chocolate Moments, a business comprising of Chocolate Boulevard at the Myer Centre and The Art of Fine Chocolate on Albert Street. As self-confessed chocoholics, Gerrard and Heather have been married for 25 years and have travelled all over the world in search of the best chocolate.
Heather met Gerrard during one of his charity runs while she was working as a teacher in Maryborough. With a keen interest in running, cycling and chocolate making, a bond was formed, and the pair started to attend chocolate making classes together. Gerrard's athletic career allowed the pair to travel together and visit every chocolate shop they could find from London to Belgium.
Gerrard and Heather took on their chocolate enterprise about eight years ago and quickly created a name for themselves, using only the best raw chocolate in the world, Callebaut, imported from Belgium. It's the combination of Callebaut chocolate with local ingredients such as Buderim ginger, Stanthorpe liqueurs and Sunshine Coast roasted nuts which make their handmade chocolates, truffles, fudges and nougat so popular (and delicious)!
All of their chocolates are made in Brisbane, are fair trade and made with only top end chocolate and local ingredients. Most of the chocolates are gluten and dairy free, and many are vegan. So, what's Gerrard's favourite chocolate? Salted caramel. Heather told us Gerrard became obsessed with a salted caramel chocolate he tasted in Belgium, spending months and months refining his recipe until he found the perfect flavour. That's a good enough reason for us to visit Chocolate Boulevard! Chocolate Boulevard also takes orders for handmade Belgian chocolates for corporate events and weddings, making a beautiful bonbonniere or talking point on the table.
Chocolate Boulevard is located on Level E. For opening hours click here.
